How to Treat Burnt Hair
Firstly, you need to determine how badly your hair is burnt. If it’s damaged to the extent of losing all elasticity and breaking, there isn’t much you can do to it but snip it off, as the damage is irreversible. Also, you’ll need to let it grow slowly and keep trimming it till all of the burnt hair is completely gone. Additionally, you’ll need to condition it daily and deep condition it once a week till it is back to normal. If it’ is a mild burn that has made your hair dry and split at the ends, you can use hot oil treatment and deep conditioning to repair the damage. However, it is advisable to consult a hairstylist or an expert before doing anything.
Till your hair is back to normal, don’t use any styling equipment like a blow dryer, irons, or curlers. Even later, it is advisable to use such equipment sparingly. You haven’t mentioned how you burnt your hair, but such occurrences are often a result of an improper technique while using such equipment. Henceforth, while straightening or ironing, to prevent getting your hair burnt again, never iron or straighten while your hair is still wet, and never overheat the iron. Test the iron on a white tissue paper first. If it chars the paper, it will char your hair too. Use the iron only if it turns the paper to golden brown. While blow drying, if possible keep the blow on low and keep the dryer away from your hair. Also, generously apply the necessary pressing cream or lotion before ironing it.
Natural treatment and Remedies for burnt hair
You can use some home remedies to restore your burnt hair. Give your hair a hot oil treatment once a week. You can use coconut oil or olive oil for the same. Alternatively, take three tablespoons of olive oil and canola oil each, and heat the mixture till it’s lukewarm. Apply the warm oil solution on to your scalp and hair, starting at the ends and working it up to the scalp. Then, wrap your hair with a warm towel and let it stay for about 30 minutes. Finally, wash it off with a mild shampoo. For better results, you can include rosemary, honey or essential oils in the hot oil treatment.
For deep conditioning, use mayonnaise and honey. Mix these two and apply the mixture on your hair generously. Then cover your hair with a plastic bag and a towel. Blow dry over the cap and towel for about 10 minutes and let the mix, cap and towel stay for another 20 minutes. Wash it off with warm water and rinse thoroughly. This will lessen the damage to a great extent.
