Suffering from an itchy scalp can be very annoying. Having an itchy scalp could be due to a number of reasons such as; being allergic to a new shampoo or oil you just started using, it can even be because of a fungal infection on your scalp. Your hair could also be infected by lice that cause itching. Just picking up a fancy shampoo or conditioner may not be the solution to this problem. It has been proved in many studies that most of the commercial shampoos just have an excellent foaming and scenting effect on your hair but do nothing to treat the real problem. So it is important to first diagnose your hair and scalp in order to understand what the main cause of the itch is. Most of these products also have a lot of harmful chemicals so it is best to try and use some home and natural remedies to avoid or stop the itch in your scalp.
Home Remedies For Itchy Scalp
Some of these home remedies for itchy scalp include:
• Massage some warm coconut or olive oil to your scalp twice a week, the oil gets soaked into the scalp and moisturizes it. Keep it on for about an hour and then rinse it out with water and a mild shampoo. Using baking soda mixed with water is a good alternative to shampoos.
• Mix some aloe vera and almond oil and apply it gently to your hair. Wrap a hot damp towel around your head as this helps the oil soak well into the scalp. This has also been known to be a very effective itchy scalp remedy
• In order to maintain the correct PH level and soothe the scalp you may mix some apple cider vinegar with water and apply it to your hair.
• In order to treat problems such as dandruff and lice which are responsible for the itchy sensation you can use Tea Tree oil and Lavender as they soothe your scalp and moisturizes the hair cells.
• Neem oil when mixed with lavender and rosemary oil acts like an insecticide which cures lice and dandruff out of your scalp and conditions it. Regular massages of the scalp with these oils could provide much relief and could be used as itchy scalp natural remedies.
• Avoid using soap to wash your hair as it has very high ph level that will dry your scalp.
• Soak some oat meal in water for 15 minutes and then strain it into a bowl. Add a few drops of lavender oil and rosemary to the mixture. Mix this well and using a cotton ball dab it on your scalp and leave it on for 15 minutes as it soothes the itch.
