Hair that has been exposed to the damaging effects of the sun, wind and pollution or harsh hair care products often becomes dry and brittle and requires intensive care to restore it to its natural health. A hot oil treatment helps to fix brittle hair prone to breakages, split ends and hair fall and is also an excellent way to improve the over all health of the hair so that it has a natural shine. Though it seems like a luxury offered in spas and beauty salons, a regular hot oil massage is a must to have a healthy and shining mane of hair.

Massage With Hair Care Oil

Oil contains essential moisturizing ingredients and helps to moisturize the hair and the massage helps to increase blood circulation in the scalp, thus improving the health of the hair. It also helps to relax and unwind while the oil soaks into the scalp and works its magic. Done at home, a hot oil treatment is not the least bit expensive, but just as effective and is a guaranteed method to fix all hair problems and have an enviable mane of lustrous hair.

For a hot oil treatment, coconut oil, jojoba oil, almond oil or even olive oil is recommended. A few drops of essential oils such as rosemary, sage and peppermint can be added to the carrier oils to treat problems such as hair fall and weak hair. The bottle of oil can be placed in a bowl of hot water to heat it mildly; over-heating the oil is not recommended since it can lead to burns. Alternately, some oil can be poured into a bowl and heated in the microwave oven by placing the bowl in the microwave for approximately 2 minutes or long enough to become warm.

Once the oil is hot enough, it can be rubbed into the scalp gently with the finger tips ensuring that the entire scalp and body of hair is covered to reap maximum benefits. For best results, the hair can be covered with a showering cap or a warm towel once the oil massage is over. This will enable to oil to penetrate properly into the skin and though slightly more tedious, this is more effective. Alternately the oil can be left in the hair overnight. Once the oil has been given enough time to soak into the scalp, it can be washed off using a mild shampoo, followed by a good conditioner.
