Causes of Seborrheic Dermatitis
Seborrheic dermatitis is a skin condition, commonly called dandruff, which is caused by extreme oiliness leading to red, patchy, and itchy skin. This problem is caused by excessive production of sebum, fungal infections, stress, and due to certain nutritional deficiencies. When the condition affects the scalp, it causes inflammation and irritation thereby damaging the hair follicle and leading to hair loss. To prevent seborrheic dermatitis, it’s very important to keep the scalp clean and save it from oil, dirt, and pollution. For that, one must thoroughly cleanse the scalp with a mild anti dandruff shampoo about thrice a week and cover the head every time one steps out. Fortunately, hair loss induced by seborrheic dermatitis is not permanent. Once the problem is cured, the hair grows back normally. So, to prevent hair loss, it is important to treat dandruff first.
Prevent Seborrheic Dermatitis
There are many ways to prevent dandruff and subsequent hair fall. Other than keeping the scalp clean, it’s important to maintain a balanced diet, avoid unhealthy food, keep stress and tension at bay, get enough sleep, and nourish the hair. Getting adequate vitamins, minerals, and minerals through food is important. So, one must consume green leafy vegetables (especially spinach), raw vegetables, and fresh fruits (especially apples and oranges) on a daily basis. One can also consume two to three cloves of garlic everyday to arrest the problem. Garlic is a natural antifungal product that deals with all kinds of infections caused by fungi. Mixing ¼ cup apple cider vinegar with a cup of water and using it as final rinse regularly also controls dandruff and conditions the hair because of its antibacterial and antifungal properties. Tea tree oil also has properties similar to apple cider vinegar.
One can dilute it with a base oil like coconut oil or olive oil, and apply it to the scalp. Ferment yogurt for three days and apply it 20 minutes before washing the hair to treat seborrheic dermatitis. Applying lemon juice to the scalp about 20 minutes before washing the hair is also a helpful treatment. Perhaps the most effective treatment would be mixing yogurt and the juice of one lemon, applying it and leaving it on for 30 minutes before shampooing. Yogurt will get rid of the oil and dirt, and lemon will treat the dandruff. Another remedy is chopping an onion and rubbing it on the scalp and washing it off after 30 minutes. Applying aloe vera gel regularly is also a good treatment.
