Most hair problems like hair fall, thinning of hair, split ends, and dry and brittle hair have much to do with the health of the scalp. Common problems like dandruff, dry scalp, oily scalp, and scalp acne are a by product of unclean condition of the scalp, bad lifestyle, faulty diet, nutritional deficiencies, lack of sleep and rest, mental tension, and stress. These problems do not affect one’s scalp overnight but only if they are unaddressed for a long time. There are other factors like overuse of harsh chemicals through shampoos and hair products, equipments like iron and hairdryers, overexposure to the sun, extreme weathers, and pollution that lead to problems like dry scalp, dry hair, breakage, and eventually hair loss.
Home Remedies To Prevent Scalp and Hair Problems
To prevent and treat all kinds of scalp and hair problems, one must consume a healthy and balanced diet full of green leafy vegetables, raw vegetables, fresh fruits, nuts and seeds, and whole grains. It’s equally important to avoid junk food, packaged and processed food, sugary, and oily food. One can also treat the problem effectively by making sure to wash the hair about thrice a week with a mild herbal shampoo that would suit their hair type. Shampooing must always be followed by conditioning. It’s also very important to oil hair and scalp thoroughly at least twice a week with any of the oils like coconut, olive, almond, sesame, or mustard. Any of these oils must be heated till it’s lukewarm and massaged into the scalp, left overnight or for at least two hours and washed off. Sesame oil is particularly good for massaging the scalp as it has deep penetrative properties that nourish the scalp right from the blood stream.
Drinking a glass of bitter gourd juice everyday is beneficial for all kinds of hair problems. Apple cider vinegar is also beneficial for most hair problems, whether getting rid of dandruff or conditioning the hair. One can add on ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar to a cup of water and use it as a final rinse. Another remedy is mixing baking soda in water and rinsing the hair with it. These are good remedies whether one has extremely oily or extremely dry scalp. Gently massaging a mix of yogurt and the juice of one lemon into the scalp, letting it stay for 30 minutes before washing off is also beneficial. Yogurt gets rid of dirt and oil on the scalp, and lemon treats dandruff and dry scalp.
