Hair Loss in Babies
Hair loss in babies may be caused by fungal growth and infection on the scalp. Since the baby’s scalp is extremely sensitive and thin, this can affect the hair follicles beneath the epidermis and cause loss of hair. Thus, it is essential to ensure that you do not allow dirt, sweat and dead skin cells accumulate on the scalp, as these are the primary factors that cause microbial growth on the scalp. Wash the baby’s scalp and hair daily with lukewarm water and a mild baby shampoo. In order to prevent the baby’s scalp from becoming excessively dry and therefore prone to infections, you may massage his/her head very gently with some vitamin E oil half an hour before bathing him/her. You should also massage the roots of the baby’s hair with a little olive oil after bathing him/her using your fingertips. This stimulates the hair follicles and sebaceous glands underneath the scalp and promotes faster and healthier growth of hair. In addition, feed the baby homemade fruit juices and milk every day in order to supply essential nutrients to his/her body, which helps boost the system’s natural immunity against infections and causes hair to become stronger.
Remedies to Prevent Hair Loss in Babies
Besides these general rules, you may also follow a few specific natural remedies to prevent and treat hair loss in babies. Application of onion juice on the scalp is an effective way of destroying microbes breeding on its surface. The high sulfur content of onion juice makes it an excellent natural disinfecting agent. However, the pungent juice of onion can cause a burning sensation on the baby’s scalp, so remember to mix a teaspoon of honey with it before applying it on the scalp. Honey produces a soothing effect on the scalp and absorbs moisture from the microscopic germs breeding on the scalp, thereby destroying them effectively.
Another effective natural remedy for hair loss in babies is to massage the roots of the hair with half a cup of coconut milk. Coconut milk is rich in protein and fatty acids, which nourish the scalp and the hair follicles and make hair grow denser. For better results, you may crush aloe vera leaves and mix their juice with the coconut milk before application and rinse the baby’s hair with water an hour after this. You may also soak two teaspoons of fenugreek seeds in a cup of water overnight, grind them to a fine paste the next morning and apply this on the baby’s scalp 15-20 minutes before washing it off with water.
