Monday, August 17th, 2009

Hair loss or alopecia is a very common problem faced by a large number of people. This condition is normally characterized by an abnormal loss of hair, the thinning of ones hair or poor and scanty hair growth. At the base of every hair follicle is an up-growth called papilla. This papilla generates hair when, amino acids are converted to keratin with the help of certain cells. Keratin is primarily what one’s hair is made up off and when the production of keratin is reduced, it leads to hair loss. Hair loss can be brought about by several factors such as; stress and anxiety, improper eating habits, frequent use of chemicals on the hair, as a side effect of an illness or disease, lack of hygiene and genetics.

Remedies to Prevent Hair Falling

Hair loss can be treated at home with a few home remedies. Take a few fenugreek seeds and soak them in a bowl of water for an hour. In the meanwhile, gently massage 2 tablespoons of warm coconut oil into the scalp. After 30 minutes grind the fenugreek seeds into a fine paste and apply it onto your scalp. Leave this on for an hour and then wash it off with lukewarm water. Following this procedure religiously for a month is considered to yield positive results. Make a paste from a teaspoon of honey, a table spoon of warm olive oil and 1-1 ½ teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Mix the 3 ingredients well and apply the mixture on the scalp, 20 minutes before your bath. This will also help in reducing hair loss. The juice made from green cilantro leaves can also be applied on the scalp to help fight this condition.

Daily application of a mixture made from lime juice and coconut oil is also known to reduce hair loss considerably. Warm almond oil can also be massaged into the hair daily. This will help the hair regain its strength, and will prevent it from breakage and damage. Along with these remedies it is also important that you maintain a healthy diet. Make sure you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables as they are rich in nutrients and will strengthen your hair from within. Drinking a mixture of spinach and lettuce juice will also help. This will stimulate hair growth, if consumed daily. Avoid combing your hair vigorously and use your fingers to detangle knots. Also avoid the application of harsh chemicals such as dyes and sprays.

Although hair loss is not a serious health hazard, it can often tend to be a common cause for concern. On an average we lose about 100 strands of hair on a daily basis. This hair however re-grows from the same the follicle after some time, to make up for the lost one. In some people though, the fallen hair is replaced by a thin re-growth, after this new hair in turn has fallen, it is replaced by an even thinner one. This constant thinning of hair eventually results in the failure of the hair follicles to produce new ones, causing hair loss.

Home Remedies to Regrow Lost Hair

Following a few home remedies can help you restore your hair. Make a mixture of sage tea and apple cider vinegar. Use this to rinse your hair; it will help in improving hair growth and the texture of the hair. Massage tree tea oil into the scalp. This will keep the scalp clean by killing any bacteria that may be present. Another option would be to massage lavender oil into the scalp 3 times in a week. The oil has to be left on the scalp for 15-20 minutes after which you can rinse it off with warm water. This has been proved to increase hair growth considerably.  Mix together half a teaspoon each of jojoba oil and rosemary oil. Warm the oils over low heat and then apply the warm mixture on your scalp. Leave it on for a few hours before you rinse it off. Another valuable remedy to improve hair growth is the use of black pepper and lime seeds. Grind the two together into a fine powder and then add some water to make a paste. Apply a small amount of this paste on the scalp and leave it on for 10 minutes, and then rinse it off thoroughly with warm water. This treatment will enable the follicles to generate stronger and thicker hair

Pay attention to what you eat. A diet that contains proteins is essential, as they contain certain amino acids, which are responsible for hair growth. Several vitamin and minerals in fruits and vegetables are also essential for healthy hair and should be included in your daily diet.  Drink plenty of water as even the hair and scalp needs moisture, thus keeping them adequately hydrated at all times is important. Maintain a clean scalp and avoid using a hair dryer on your hair. Following these simple guidelines will gradually restore the quantity as well as the quality of your hair.

Causes of Split ends

Healthy hair appears thick, lustrous and devoid of any split ends. Split ends are caused when the cuticle, which is responsible for protecting the hair, gets stripped off from the end of our hair fibers. This happens when the oil that is naturally present on our scalp is unable to reach these ends or when the hairs cortex (which makes up most of the hair shaft) loses moisture, thus giving a dull and dry appearance to the hair. There are a large number of reasons that can account for one to have split ends, namely; a dry scalp, combing the hair immediately after it has been washed and a lack of appropriate nourishment. Any excessive use of appliances such as hair dryers and irons, frequent use of harsh chemicals such as hair dyes and hair sprays or using metallic combs or brushes will damage the hair follicle and result in splitting. Vigorous backcombing and brushing should be avoided as this too is harsh on the hair and will increase splitting..

Home Remedies to Repair Split Ends

There are, however, a few home remedies that one could follow to get back the sheen in their hair. Mix together a teaspoon each of olive oil, castor oil and mustard oil. Gently massage the mixture on the scalp for about 30 minutes. Make sure to cover the entire hair strand including the ends of the hair. Next wrap your hair in a warm towel and wash off the oil after half an hour. Make a mixture from the yolk of one egg and a teaspoon of almond oil. Apply this onto the entire hair, ensuring that you cover the ends as well. Leave this application in the hair for 30 minutes after which you can rinse it off with lukewarm water.  Take one medium sized ripe papaya and blend it into a thick paste. Add about a cup of yogurt to this paste and mix the two ingredients well. Apply a generous of this mixture onto the scalp and hair. After leaving it on for 30 minutes wash it off with warm water.

Take a teaspoon of olive oil and warm it gently over a low flame. Add a mashed avocado to the warm oil and make a smooth paste of the two. Apply a thick layer of the paste on both the scalp and the hair. Once it has stayed on your hair for 30 minutes, rinse it off with warm water. You could also trim your hair to reduce the split ends. In fact trimming your hair every two months will prevent split ends from traveling further up the hair shaft and causing more damage.<

How to Get Soft and Bouncy Hair

Monday, August 17th, 2009

There are often times, when our hair has a limp, dull and lifeless appearance to it. Sometimes all it needs is a thorough wash to restore its shine, vitality and bounce. However this may not work all the time, and it is then that we have to take additional care, so that it can regain the strength and vigor that it has lost. Constipation, pollution, stress, chronic cold and excessive exposure to heat are a few of the many reasons that can make your hair appear lifeless and limp.

Home Remedies to Make Hair Soft

For shiny and vibrant hair you could try a few of these simple home remedies. Flat beer is one of the oldest and most commonly used techniques to restore bounce to the hair. Shampoo you hair in the regular manner, and then rinse it off with the 2-3 cups of beer. Another alternative would be to use tea leaves. Boil about 2-3 spoons of tealeaves (used) in a liter of water. Once the solution has cooled, strain it into a jar and use this as a final rinse on your hair after shampooing. You could also make your very own shampoo at home. All you will need is an egg, a teaspoon of olive oil, a tablespoon of castile soap, 1-1 ½ cup of herbal tea or water, a teaspoon of lemon juice and five drops of any essential oil. Mix all theses ingredients together and use it to wash your hair instead of your regular shampoo.

Adding a teaspoon of baking soda to your shampoo is also a very helpful remedy. It will help in bringing back the lost luster. Mix together, a teaspoon of olive oil, one egg and a tablespoon of lemon juice. Apply this onto the scalp and the hair and let it stay for about 30 minutes, after which rinse it off thoroughly with lukewarm water. Make 2 cups of espresso (relatively strong). Once it has cooled pour it over dry hair and leave it on for 15-20 minutes, after which rinse it off with warm water. Massaging baking soda into the hair is also recommended. It will help absorb all the excess oil and will also loosen any dead skin that is present on your scalp. Now rinse it off thoroughly with cold water. The hair may look dry the first few times that you try this treatment, but it will eventually get back its shine and bounce.<
